Dear Grandpa,

Dear Grandpa, is a solo exhibition with Thương Hoài Trần that probes the often tangled exchange between familial bonds and the fragility of memory. Utilizing personal photographic archives and other ephemera, Hoài Trần unwinds the threads of their family's history, reminding us that to remember is to negotiate a delicate balance between preservation and excavation.

Remember Me, Remember You: A Review of “Dear Grandpa”, by Cristobal Alday for Sixty Inches from Center

“I wonder if the stress...of adapting to a new country, a new language, a new home, was so overwhelming [for me] that it eventually erased everything about you.”

— Thuong Hoai Tran, Dear Grandpa, video installation

“Details of your life...are now lost. Lost through the violence, lost in translation, lost in retelling, and lost in migration.”

— Thuong Hoai Tran, Dear Grandpa, video installation
